Response from UK Onshore Oil and Gas to the Energy and Climate Change Select Committee Report on “The Impact of Shale Gas on Energy Markets”

26 April 2013

UK Onshore Oil and Gas, (UKOOG), the representative body for the UK onshore oil and gas industry welcomes the report’s findings particularly as regards the contribution shale gas could make to the UK’s energy security, reducing the UK’s reliance on imported gas, helping to limit future energy price rises and its contribution to tax revenues.

Ken Cronin, Chief Executive of UKOOG commented, “The industry is pleased that the Committee supports our view that community engagement is key to public acceptance of shale gas exploration and that communities should share in the benefits of development. The industry is committed to early and full engagement with local authorities and residents and is currently working on proposals on how community benefits can be achieved.” He added, “We are also encouraged to see that the Committee welcomed the Industry’s Onshore Shale Gas Well Guidelines, published this February. The guidelines were developed to ensure that operations would be safe and environmentally sensitive.” Ends Contact: Ken Cronin: This email address is being protected from spambots.
