Community

communityThe UK onshore oil and gas Industry, together with UKOOG, is committed to open and honest dialogue with communities about what oil and gas activities will mean in local areas. Shale gas exploration and development has the potential to provide over 64,000 jobs in the UK as well as providing direct financial benefits to local communities and the local councils who represent them.

UKOOG has launched a “Shale Community Engagement Charter” which aims to mitigate concerns of local communities and has also announced the Community Benefits Scheme which will see £100,000 go directly to local communities for every shale exploration site that involves hydraulic fracturing and furthermore the potential for 1% of revenues to go back to the community fro production sites. The Government has also announced that 100% of the business rates from shale gas sites will go to local councils.
